Selecting the right country for Flight Training is important as a lot rides on this . Generally , just sometime ago many flight schools in the US and Canada where offering courses and packages which would have a duration of only6 to 8 months . However after talking to a lot of my friends i found out that most of them had to stay there well over a year to Finnish up . This could be even more costlier than what was preconceived .
However there are also many flying clubs who will offer you fooding and lodging if your stay is longer than expected .
The most important thing is to keep in mind that you are in a foreign country and you are working with a limited source of money . As earlier reported in the year there was a club in US which had taken all of their students money and were not providing them with training . This can be absolutely discouraging and down right frustraiting that some one or some club has you stuck for no reason and for no fault of yours . Carrers are at stake , dreams are at stake and so much more..but no one is to bother .
That is why its essenstial to check the flight schools background and also to try and get in touch with X students as well as active students to get a better idea . I remember looking up Orkut and finding out more about the club I was supposed to go to . I called up one of their students as i managed to get his number from the community and this saved me big time . Other wise I could have ended up in HOT Soup .
After you have successfully completed your Class I medicals , its now time to think of where you will be training . Now this can be the first tricky decision you make as a lot depends on this .
Basically you have three main options to consider :
1. Do your flight training from abroad and then give the composite examinations in India for your Indian Commercial Pilots license .
Advantages :
Disadvantages :
2. Complete your flight training in India .
Advantages : There aren't many but i will try to highlight some of them .
Disadvantages :
3.Finish 50 hrs of flight training in India , clear the Indian CPL exams and then go for training either abroad or continue with it in India .
Advantages :
Disadvantages :
Basically you have three main options to consider :
1. Do your flight training from abroad and then give the composite examinations in India for your Indian Commercial Pilots license .
Advantages :
- Flight training can be completed from abroad within a resonable period of time .
- The quality of training is ten folds better than in India provided you choose the right Flight School .
- At the end of the course you will be having Two Licenses which in many a cases is quite beneficial.
Disadvantages :
- The situation gets complicated when one is not able to clear the composite exams . As a result of this many of the important checkrides get lapsed and they need to be reflown and thus it can become a costly affair.
- Many a times i have seen people coming all the way back from US and other countries to renew their medical and also sometimes to try their hand at the CPL general papers . Again a lot depends on the persons current status , often many clear 1 or 2 of the general papers and go abroad so they only require to clear that paper or papers . Again all this doesn't matter if money is not a factor .
2. Complete your flight training in India .
Advantages : There aren't many but i will try to highlight some of them .
- The radio telephony license conversion is not a headache provided that you clear the India RTR exams .
- You can stay in touch with the changing trends of aviation industry in India .
- No running around with your passport and praying to god to grant you a visa .
- The main advantage is that you do not have to worry about your flying hours getting lapsed and the same going for the CPL papers.
Disadvantages :
- Training can be long and arduous .
- Training standards and facilities are very poor .
- No definite time period can be planned to finish the flight training .
3.Finish 50 hrs of flight training in India , clear the Indian CPL exams and then go for training either abroad or continue with it in India .
Advantages :
- Flying experience in two or more countries and their respective licenses.
- More options towards RTR exams .
- The headache of clearing CPL papers back home is eliminated .
Disadvantages :
- In many countries like the US the Indian hours are not taken into consideration for the issue of their FAA CPL . Those hours are required to be flown again .
- The other disadvantage can be the fact that it can be a longer process .
